Preparing for a Strong Pregnancy: My 5-Step Holistic Guide
In traditional Chinese culture, it is customary to consciously strengthen the body, spirit, and mind for up to two years before conceiving. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), customized herbs, and precise dietary protocols play a monumental role in this preparation.
♡
Below, I am sharing the exact pillars that allowed me to conceive naturally, experience a vibrant, complication-free pregnancy, and recover rapidly postpartum. My body remained fully nourished, my natural milk supply was abundant, and unlike many mothers, I suffered no loss of hair or teeth. While the intense stress of navigating the first weeks entirely alone with my newborn temporarily affected my bladder, the holistic methods I used to rapidly heal it will be featured in an upcoming article.
If you are ready to stop the guesswork and see how a disciplined approach can transform your maternal journey, you are very welcome here. I highly recommend reading the protocol below and pairing it with my video guides.

1. Targeted & Type-Specific Nutrition
Nutrition is the absolute foundation of physical health, matched only by your emotional well-being. You are what you eat, and you are what you think. Your dietary choices directly dictate your physical substance, your spirit, and the environment you create for the little angel in your womb.
For a long time, I followed a strict vegan diet and was clearly under-eating. This left me severely iron-deficient and lacking an adequate Blood supply- a massive energetic deficiency in TCM terms. If you want a healthy pregnancy, you must assess your physical baseline first. Your body must be in balance. If you look at your tongue and see deep cracks or teeth marks, you are likely dealing with deep Yin-dryness, Spleen deficiency, or Liver Qi stagnation. In my professional opinion, these systemic deficiencies must be thoroughly resolved before you attempt to conceive.
My Nutritional Strategy During Pregnancy:
As your belly expands and your body changes, elite cellular nutrition can drastically minimise or completely prevent stretch marks, hyperpigmentation (melasma), or a pronounced linea nigra. I experienced none of these, which I credit entirely to eating precisely for my energetic type and rigorously massaging my skin twice a day (starting at week 6) with a premium, self-mixed organic oil on damp skin.
(My recipe: A base of cold-pressed sesame oil in colder climates or coconut oil in tropical climates, combined with pure almond oil and generous amounts of therapeutic-grade organic essential oils of Frankincense, Lavender, and Rosehip).
Dietarily, although I naturally craved raw foods, I knew that excessive raw consumption would severely deplete my Spleen Qi. Therefore, I focused heavily on thermally cooked, clean meals that are naturally cooling in quality – such as oven-baked zucchini, tomatoes, quinoa, amaranth, couscous, and organic tofu. I only consumed fruit when steamed, always pairing it with warming nuts and seeds. I also incorporated high-quality, steamed organic fish. During my time in Thailand, I enjoyed fresh mango and pineapple, but strictly avoided bananas, yeasted breads, and refined sugar, as these heavily contribute to Dampness, fluid retention, and systemic stagnation.
2. Pelvic Floor Conditioning, Yoga & Internal Stagnation Release:
I conceived my healthy son immediately on the very first attempt. I am fully confident this rapid conception was the direct result of months of dedicated internal training. By utilising advanced pelvic floor conditioning and addressing deep energetic blocks, I cultivated an optimal environment for life. In 2017, this profound path led me to become a certified Tao-Tantric facilitator for women.
This structural and energetic work is vital. In my practice, I also utilise traditional herbal protocols to clear what TCM refers to as “Damp-Heat” in the Lower Jiao (the pelvic region). When you consume damp-inducing foods like conventional dairy, processed wheat, or heavily processed plant milks, that toxic fluid sinks into the reproductive tract. A classic symptom of Damp-Heat is pelvic pressure or the constant urge to urinate with very little release. Addressing this through target-specific herbal support and consuming 30 – 50g of organic Goji berries daily can be incredibly restorative.
Furthermore, Yoga was a non-negotiable part of my routine. I taught active classes until week 12 and maintained a powerful, customized self-practice until the literal day before I gave birth. Always listen to your body. Additionally, classical Chinese medicine strongly advises complete physical rest with absolutely no sports or strenuous activity for at least 14 to 40 days postpartum – a sacred window of recovery to allow the body to replenish its vital essence.
3. Advanced Perineal & Pelvic Training (EPI-NO):
The EPI-NO trainer is a medical device utilizing a specialized balloon to safely prepare the pelvic floor and simulate the crown diameter of a baby’s head during delivery. While standard guidelines suggest starting at week 36, I deliberately began my training in week 32. Because natural labor frequently occurs anytime between weeks 37 and 42, starting earlier gives your tissue the necessary time to safely and progressively expand to a level 10 or 11.
For me, this preparation was flawless. I delivered a very large baby naturally without requiring a single stitch or experiencing any tearing. I paired my training three times a week with a dedicated organic perineal massage oil. Utilising this tool while listening to Hypnobirthing affirmations kept me incredibly calm, confident, and mentally prepared for the opening of the birth canal.
:4. Targeted Herbal Infusions & Acupuncture:
From week 28 to 32, I utilized traditional raspberry leaf tea. Following that, my practitioner adjusted my protocol to Lady’s Mantle tea (Alchemilla vulgaris), which was highly beneficial for my specific constitution, as my extensive yoga and pelvic training left me with a highly muscular pelvic floor that needed to learn to yield. Both infusions performed exceptionally well. When my baby boy went past his due date, I utilized targeted acupuncture protocols two days and one day prior to delivery to naturally and smoothly initiate labor.
5. Womb Blessing, Meditation & Hypnobirthing:
Mental and spiritual alignment are just as vital as physical preparation. I highly recommend practicing deep meditation and Hypnobirthing protocols. This gave me unwavering psychological confidence, allowing me to fully ride the waves of an exceptionally long labor and intense surges without slipping into fear or resistance.
